Show

The Over the Edge show consisted of two parts. The first part, during which three fights took place, was broadcast on the USA Network as part of the Sunday Night Heat program. In the first match, The Meat defeated Brian Christopher, while the Hardy brothers (Matt and Jeff) defeated Goldust and Blue Mini in a team fight. Vince McMahon’s match against Mideon ended in a double disqualification. Already at the beginning of the fight, McMahon hit the referee, whose duties were performed by Shane, after which the rest of the members of the Ministry Corporation group intervened in the fight. They attacked Vince, injuring his ankle so he couldn’t referee the show’s main event. After that, the show began broadcasting on paid channels.

Preliminaries

After Sunday Night Heat ended, the show officially began. The first match of the evening was a WWF Tag Team Championship bout in which Kane and X-Pac defeated Mark Henry and DiLo Brown. During the fight, Henry picked up the X-Pac and threw it onto a wire rod. After that, Henry and Brown started hitting X-Pac together. To help his partner, Kane performed a jump from the upper ropes to his opponents. When his opponents were able to get back into the ring, he performed a choke slam. Henry, lifting him by the throat and throwing him into the ring. After that, Kane held a hold, winning for his team and retaining the tag team title. The next fight was a hardcore match with no disqualification or countouts. WWF Hardcore Champion Al Snow defended his title against Hardcore Holly. Holly and Snow started the match in the ring, but soon the fighters moved to the stands, to the audience. From there, they moved backstage and reached the trading areas of the arena, continuing the fight. At the end of the fight, the wrestlers returned to the ring. The match ended after Snow lifted Holly onto his shoulder and threw his opponent onto a wooden table, breaking him. Following this, Snow held a holdout to defend his WWF Hardcore Championship.

The next on the program was a duel for the title of Intercontinental Champion between the Godfather and the Blue Blazer. During Hart’s descent into the ring, the safety cable broke and he fell. Paramedics took him to a nearby hospital, where he died without regaining consciousness. The show was suspended for 15 minutes, after which the fourth fight took place. In a mixed tag team fight, Val Venis and Nicole Bass took on Jeff Jarrett and Debra. At the end of the match, Debra tried to use the guitar that Jarrett had brought with him before the fight. She hit Bass with it, but this blow did not harm Nicole. While Bass was distracted by Debra, Jeff tried to hit Bass with his guitar too, but Venis was able to snatch it from him, perform a suplex, and then hold. In the next match of the evening, Mr. Ass defeated his former teammate Road Dog.

The main events

The fifth match of the evening was an 8-wrestler tag team knockout between the Union and the Ministry Corporation. The first to be eliminated was Test, who was able to be held by Bradshaw after performing the Clothesline from Hell signature move. Bradshaw was eliminated by Ken Shamrock, who applied an ankle lock submission hold. Shamrock left the ring as a result of a disqualification due to hitting the referee. Farooq was the next to leave the fight, who was pinned by Big Show after receiving chokslam. Weiscera and Big Show were disqualified after failing to return to the ring within 10 seconds. The Union was victorious after Mankind forced Big Bossman to submit with a submission. The next fight was a Triple H match against The Rock. Continuing the storyline with The Rock’s injured arm, Triple H focused his punches and moves on his injured arm. Near the end of the match, Triple H asked his assistant Chyna to bring him a steel chair. However, the referee prevented Triple H from using it and threw the chair outside the referee. After a brief verbal altercation, Triple H pushed the referee. For this, the judge of the fight disqualified him and declared the Rock the winner. After the final bell, Mankind entered the ring, preventing Triple H and Chyna from attacking The Rock.

The main event of the evening was a duel for the WWF title between Steve Austin and The Undertaker. Originally, Shane and Vince McMahon were supposed to be the guest referees for this match. But, according to the storyline, earlier on the show, the Ministry Corporation injured Vince’s ankle and was replaced by Pat Patterson. However, even before the start of the fight, The Undertaker performed a chokslam on Patterson, and he was no longer able to fulfill his duties. Almost all the time there was an approximately equal fight, but Austin was able to reverse his course by hitting the Undertaker on the head with a chair. To fix the hold on the ring, another judge ran out – Gerald Briscoe. However, he, like Patterson, was attacked by The Undertaker. After that, Vince came out to replace the referee.
