History of Freestyle wrestling
Freestyle wrestling (eng. Freestyle wrestling, French Lutte libre) is a sport that consists in single combat between two athletes according to certain rules; using various techniques (captures, throws, flips, sweeps, etc.), in which each of the opponents tries to put the other on the shoulder blades and win. In freestyle wrestling, in contrast to Greco-Roman, captures of the opponent’s legs, sweeps and active use of the legs when performing any technique are allowed.
World history of free-style wrestlingIt is known from historical sources that in the 18th century in England there was a wrestling in which wrestlers were allowed to hold their legs and hold their legs.
On the international sports arena, freestyle wrestling appeared later than Greco-Roman (French) wrestling. England is considered the birthplace of freestyle wrestling. Then she appeared in the USA. The fight was called “catch-as-catch-can” (Catch wrestling).
In the United States, freestyle wrestling began to develop in two directions: wrestling itself and professional wrestling. Sports freestyle wrestling, cultivated mainly in colleges and universities in the United States (in Russia it was called “free-American amateur wrestling”). The rules of international freestyle wrestling are similar to this type of wrestling.
In 1904, freestyle wrestling was first included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games in St. Louis (USA). All 42 athletes were from the USA. This happened due to the fact that the United States, using its right as hosts, turned on catch wrestling (student, amateur version). The Olympic Committee agreed and called it Freestyle wrestling. But, the Europeans were not familiar with this type of struggle and therefore none of them dared to take part. Therefore, the Olympic freestyle wrestling tournament was in jeopardy and then the Americans timed their national championship for the Olympics and organized it as an Olympic competition.
At the next Extraordinary Olympic Games in 1906, the Greeks preferred Greco-Roman wrestling (classical) wrestling, removing freestyle wrestling from the program, since it was unfamiliar to them.
In the future, freestyle wrestling was constantly (with the exception of the 1912 games in Stockholm) included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games.
In total, from 1904 to 1996, Americans won 99 Olympic medals at the Olympic Games – more than any other country at that time. Moreover, in 1904 a “record” was set that will never be broken, since the wrestlers were only from the USA – only they got Olympic medals of all merits.
In 1912, before the start of the Summer Olympic Games in Stockholm, the International Union of Wrestlers FILA (German: Internationaler Ring Verband) was first created. Officially, the first (not counting the meeting in Sweden) congress of the union met in June 1913 in Berlin. There were delegates from the following countries: the German Empire, the Grand Duchy of Finland, Denmark, Sweden, the Russian Empire, Hungary, Austria, Bohemia (Czech Republic), Great Britain.
World history of freestyle wrestling Between 1904 and 1912, the number of athletes entered in one weight category from one country was not limited. From 1920 to 1924, no more than two athletes from one country were allowed to enter in one weight category.
In 1920, during the Antwerp Summer Olympics, the International Olympic Committee recommended the creation of an independent federation for each sport. And the following year, at the IOC Olympic Congress in Lausanne, the International Amateur Wrestling Federation (IAWF) was formed.
In 1928, the first European Championship was held in Paris. And since 1928, in the weight category, only one participant can represent the country. The Olympic tournament is held according to the elimination system.
In 1951, the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles (FILA, French FILA) was created. Since the same year, she has been holding world championships (FILA Wrestling World Championships).
By the 1980s, women’s freestyle wrestling was recognized in the world and, as a result, in 2004 it was included in the program of the Summer Olympic Games, becoming the third women’s Olympic martial art (after judo and taekwondo). The debut of a new women’s sport took place at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
Currently, the leading countries in freestyle wrestling are: Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran, Georgia, Japan. Also, people place big bets and earn money from it.
How it works
For sports betting players, the organizer determines. You can not refuse any event if the result looks unpredictable or if you do not like the coefficient. You can only guess the outcomes or scores of the proposed matches. Money is paid if the number of correct predictions is not less than the established minimum. Otherwise, the bet loses.
The rules of the sweepstakes usually provide for the payment of a jackpot for players who have not made a single mistake. The prize fund is determined by the total bet amount minus the share of the organizers. In most bookmakers, this figure is 10% of the pool. Sports events can belong to one discipline or to several. Football is traditionally the most popular.
are placed on this totalizator most often. Here you need to guess the outcome of the fights. 1 and 2 mean the wins of the hosts and guests, respectively, X – a draw. In the classic draws, 15 matches are offered, and 9 predicted events are enough for the minimum win. If none of the participants was able to make 12-15 correct predictions, part of the amount is credited to the jackpot of the next draw.
Guessing which opponent will win is much easier than predicting the score of a match. This totalizator differs from 1X2 in a smaller number of events (8–10). Often, a couple of correct predictions are enough to receive a payout. Sometimes there is such an option as playing for totals. Instead of outcomes and scores, here you need to guess the total over (TB) and total under (UT).
Differences from the classic betting game in bookmakers
Tote is sports betting, but this is not the same as making traditional bets with a bookmaker.
- Main differences:
- no coefficients;
- the size of the winnings becomes known only after summing up the results of the circulation;
- the player cannot independently choose events;
- there is a jackpot, which is often a serious amount.
Sports betting can be compared to a simplified express or system, as it gives you the opportunity to get a big win at minimal cost. However, professional bettors treat it as entertainment, not considering it a reliable tool for stable money making. Making a bet here is akin to buying a lottery ticket for them: what if they get lucky?
Online sweepstakes is designed for sports fans who want to add drive while watching sports broadcasts. Of course, secretly everyone dreams of hitting the jackpot. There are players who buy a lot of tickets at once (this is not prohibited by the rules) in order to make as many combinations as possible. However, such a game has much less chance of success than the classic types of bets.
What is toto for bookmakers? This is a sure income without the slightest risk. There is no need to calculate the odds, monitor the appearance of surebets, etc. The organizer simply receives his 10% and distributes the remaining money among the winners. Not surprisingly, many sites offer customers several toto options at the same time. Before counting the winnings, you need to familiarize yourself with the rules.
Modern freestyle wrestling rules A freestyle
Wrestling match lasts 3 periods of 2 minutes each with a 30 second break. At the end of each period, a winner must be announced. The wrestler who wins 2 periods is declared the winner of the bout. If a victory can be awarded after two periods, the third period is cancelled. “Touche” automatically stops the fight, despite the period of the fight. If a wrestler holds a hold with an amplitude of 5 points, he is declared the winner of the period, regardless of the score. If a wrestler performs two 3-point holds in a period, he is declared the winner of the period, regardless of the score.
If points are equal 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and so on, and when the criteria for evaluating techniques and warnings are the same, the winner is determined not by the first, but by the last point received in this period. The fight can be won in the following way: on the “carcass”; in case of injury, withdrawal from the competition, non-appearance, disqualification of the opponent; by technical excellence; by points (winning in both periods with a difference of 1 to 6 points).
Wrestlers are prohibited from: Performing any actions, gestures or techniques with the aim of inflicting pain or suffering on an opponent in order to force him to surrender. Use techniques that can threaten the life or injure the opponent. Press with your elbow or knee on the stomach or stomach of the opponent. Grab the carpet. Talk during the fight. Grab the opponent by the sole of the foot (it is only allowed to grab the top of the foot or the heel). Agree in advance on the results of the fight. Apply greasy or sticky substances to the body. Going out onto the mat sweaty at the start of a bout or second period. Wear items that can injure an opponent, such as rings, bracelets, earrings, prostheses, etc.
The fight must be stopped and resumed in the center of the mat in the following cases: if one of the wrestler’s legs completely touches the protection zone; if the athletes, while in the grip, enter the red zone with three or four legs without performing a hold, and remain there; if the bottom wrestler’s head is fully touching the defense zone; if the coach disputes the situation, the mat chairman interrupts the bout after the action has gone to neutral.
How the winnings are distributed
When playing the totalizator, bets are collected in a common pool. The share of BC is subtracted from this amount. The jackpot is formed separately, accumulating from draw to draw. If all predictions are correct, which happens extremely rarely, it is reset to zero and in the next draw it is simply the maximum win, the size of which depends on the collected prize pool.
A classic totalizator is a uniform distribution of funds depending on the number of correctly named outcomes/accounts. An example of a scheme for a draw of 15 events:
- 9 – 30%;
- 10 – 20%;
- 11 – 15%;
- 12 – 10%;
- 13 – 10%;
- 14 – 5%.
The amount that each participant receives directly depends on how many happiness comrades he has. The fewer there are, the larger the payout. The jackpot can also be divided among the winners if there are several of them. Please note that in our example, only 90% of the pool is drawn, as 10% is taken by the company that organized the online sweepstakes.
